Resistance to tearing

Resistance to tearing

The test measures the force required to tear a membrane pierced by a nail shank by a force applied to the membrane at right angles to the shank axis.
To perform the test a universal testing machine Z1200 Zwick/Roell – LB 100 equipped with special grips and measuring equipment by Hottinger Baldwin Masstechnik (universal amplifier HBM Quantum MX-840B – with CATMAN EASY AP software and tensile force transducer of nominal (rated) force appropriate to the strength of tested material (HBM S2M/1000N) is used.
The resistance to tearing of membrane is determined according to EN 13859-1 - Flexible sheets for waterproofing - Definitions and characteristics of underlays -- Part 1: Underlays for discontinuous roofing. The detailed procedure is given in the standard EN 12310-1 - Flexible sheets for waterproofing - Part 1: Bitumen sheets for waterproofing - Determination of resistance to tearing (nail shank).
As part of the testing of the PM&VL7 research line, Rothoblaas membranes were examined.
