Breaking strength and elongation at break

Breaking force and elongation at break

The breaking strength or the breaking force and elongation at break shows the ability of a material to withstand stresses during application and use. To perform the tests a universal testing machine Z100 Zwick/Roell or Z1200 Zwick/Roell equipped with special grips and measuring equipment by Hottinger Baldwin Masstechnik (universal amplifier HBM Quantum MX-840B – LB 164 with CATMAN EASY AP software and tensile force transducer of nominal (rated) force appropriate to the strength of tested material (HBM S2M/1000N) is used. Depending on the type of material, the tests are conducted in accordance with:
The breaking strength of a self-adhesive tape is determined according to EN ISO 29864 - Self-adhesive tapes - Measurement of breaking strength and elongation at break.
The breaking force of a glass fibre grid is determined according to ISO 3341 – Textile glass – Yarns – Determination of breaking force and breaking elongation.
As part of the testing of the PM&VL7 research line, Rothoblaas tapes and Flex&Robust composites were examined before and after ageing.
