Façade course on the journey from idea to market

How can innovative façade ideas move from laboratory research to real buildings?

This question is explored in a new video produced by Eurac Research included in Façade Forward, the final online course developed under the OpenFace project, launching on 11 April.

Filmed in the Eurac Research laboratories in Bolzano, the video features Miren Juaristi Gutierrez, Akshit Gupta, and Riccardo Pinotti, researchers at Eurac Research, who discuss one of the main challenges in façade engineering: the gap between promising innovations and their successful market uptake.

The video shows how MEZeroE supports this transition through a structured pathway: from advanced simulations and controlled laboratory testing to full‑scale experiments and validation in living labs. This approach helps generate reliable evidence on performance, scalability, and long‑term behaviour, reducing risks for companies and other stakeholders.

Beyond technical testing, the video highlights the importance of non‑technical aspects such as certification, monitoring strategies, and business models. Through an open innovation ecosystem connecting researchers, manufacturers, testing facilities, and end users, MEZeroE supports the development of façade technologies that are both technically sound and market‑ready.

The clip is part of a longer video included in Façade Forward, an online course focusing on innovation, sustainability, and market uptake in façade design.
